In a statement in Parliament on Wednesday, the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (ARF) group insisted that the government should resign immediately and a roadmap for fair and transparent parliamentary elections should be drawn up. The National Assembly should ensure a technical and functional budget transition to prevent the collapse of the financial system and financial payments, reads the statement as presented by ARF Deputy Floor Leader Sevim Ali.
The ARF parliamentary group also proposes the creation of a broad public and civil expert council to ensure non-partisan control of the electoral process. "We call on our European partners to pay serious attention to everything that is happening in Bulgaria," Ali said.
The statement also notes that the country is facing a severe economic crisis, and the failure to adopt the state budget is clear evidence of the current government's inability to govern, ensure predictability, stability, and protect the public interest. The budget is objectively the main contract between the State and its citizens, which they conclude every year. When the authorities fail to reach a political consensus to guarantee basic systems such as healthcare, social activities, and education, it means the collapse of the State. The failed budget is now the result of deep political confusion, lack of vision, competence, and morality, the statement reads.
Bulgarian citizens should not have to pay the price for irresponsible governance, and widespread civil discontent has expressed disagreement with this model and form of governance, the ARF said.
