“Citizens demanded the resignation of this government; we from Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) join this demand from the highest tribune of Bulgarian democracy. Resignation, and free and fair elections,” said CC-DB MP Bozhidar Bozhanov in a declaration on behalf of his Parliamentary Group from the rostrum of the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Tens of thousands of citizens took to the streets in Sofia and major regional centres across Bulgaria on Monday to protest the adoption of the 2026 State Budget Bill. Protests were held in Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse, Pleven, Stara Zagora, Lovech, Veliko Tarnovo, Dobrich, Blagoevgrad, Sliven, Shumen and Yambol. Protesters in Sofia were heard chanting "Resignation!", apparently calling on the government to resign.

“We cannot allow [MRF - New Beginning leader Delyan] Peevski to devour the future of yet another generation of Bulgarian citizens. We cannot allow them to once again foot the bill for others’ fears, brutal theft, and corruption,” Bozhanov said. “There is only one way out of this crisis - removing Peevski’s piggy banks from the budget, removing Peevski from the governance of the country, and the government’s resignation followed by early elections,” he stated.

“This government no longer has any legitimacy; it has completely exhausted the public’s trust and must immediately resign so we can go to elections,” Bozhanov said. “We will submit a vote of no confidence, and there will be protests until you fall from power, since you cannot hear what the people are telling you today,” he said, addressing the ruling majority.

Citizens placed the cordon sanitaire around Peevski, which the incumbents refused to do, he said. "We reached this point because this Parliament chose to protect Peevski rather than the State, and citizens were forced to isolate him themselves,” Bozhanov declared.

“The youngest took to the squares and said: ‘Enough. Full stop. Never again.’ We stand with them,” he continued. “The demand is clear - the government’s resignation and an end to the dependence on Delyan Peevski.” According to him, withdrawing the budget is a belated, panic-driven move, and a majority in which Peevski is decisive cannot produce any other budget, because “this budget is the numerical expression of a captured state.”

“This is not chaos; this is a scenario. And there is political responsibility for that scenario,” Bozhanov said. “The resignation of the Interior Minister is long overdue; today we are talking about something bigger - it is time for the entire government to resign,” he added.

“Any cooperation with this governing majority is absolutely out of the question,” the CC-DB MP stated. “In early elections, we will fight for the votes of all the people protesting and all those who support the protests,” he added.

Tsoncho Ganev of Vazrazhdane commented that the protest was against the budget and that only yesterday CC-DB “gathered the courage” to say they supported the protesters’ demand for the government’s resignation.
