“Only my supporters can ask for my resignation, and they will continue to give me more and more trust - we all see it,” said the leader of MRF - New Beginning, Delyan Peevski, in Parliament here on Wednesday. When asked about the government’s resignation, Peevski said that “the answer was given yesterday [Tuesday].” He added that power is taken or given through elections. “There is a mandate, there is a governing trio, which we support,” he said.

Monday's large-scale protests in Sofia and across the country, as well as the riots in the capital late that same day, sparked many comments and reactions in the following days. The protests were organized by Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) against the 2026 State Budget Bill, with the subsequent demand for its withdrawal and revision turning into a demand for the resignation of the Cabinet. Calls for Peevski to be ousted from the political stage were also often heard during the protest.

“Everyone has the right to support their parties, but I advise them not to sow hatred — ethnic or against MRF. They showed on the screens my brothers - Turks, Pomaks, and Roma,” Peevski added, saying he would not allow such things. “If they sow hatred, they will reap hatred. I warn them not to divide people,” he said. Asked where he saw an insult, Peevski replied, “Watch - they showed it.”

Peevski said they would support the budget when it is good for the people. “All social payments and social benefits are preserved,” he added.

“As for the people who until yesterday sat in my office, drank their coffee and begged me to represent them, sat in my lap - where is [former DB co-chair] Hristo Ivanov, where is [CC-DB MP] Ivaylo Mirchev, who bent over to sign - why don’t we show the signatures?” Peevski said. “I simply refused to be part of their oligarchy, and I never will be,” Delyan Peevski declared.

Asked about Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov, who had visited his office, Peevski said it was normal for him to be there, adding that during the meeting in his office, they discussed social benefits for the people.
