Representatives of GERB–UDF expressed hope that the dialogue between businesses and trade unions will continue, and stated that the Ministry of Interior handled the protest perfectly, referring to the large-scale nationwide protests on Monday against the 2026 draft state budget, which led to clashes between mostly masked young men and the police in the later hours of the night.
In addition to initially protesting against the draft budget, protesters could be heard calling for the government's resignation.
“Today we will review the request to withdraw the [2026 draft State] budget, and I hope that the dialogue restored yesterday [Tuesday] between businesses and trade unions will continue,” GERB-UDF MP Yordanka Fandakova told journalists upon entering Parliament here on Wednesday. Her statement was in response to a question about whether, given the protesters’ demands for the Cabinet to resign, the withdrawal of the budget is sufficient.
Mladen Marinov from the GERB–UDF parliamentary group commented that, given the situation, the Ministry of Interior handled Monday’s protest perfectly.
