The Republic of North Macedonia woke up to sub-zero temperatures and snow in the higher parts of the country. On Friday morning, the coldest temperature was -4C, measured at Popova Sapka peak, with 26 centimetres of snow. According to the country's meteorological service, the snow cover in Lazaropole is 16 centimetres, 12 in Mavrovi Anovi, 6 in Guriste and 3 in Debar.

Traffic on the regional road Nikforovo - Leunovo - Bunec has been disrupted since Thursday evening, due to snowfall and fallen trees. Work on the clearing of the road is underway.

The country’s state road agency recommends that drivers comply with the traffic signs and signals, drive carefully, with reasonable speed, especially on roads through valleys and river gorges, where the possibility of landslides is imminent.

In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was registered in Strumica - 52 litres per square meter, in Gevgelija - 51, in Demir Kapija - 50, in Tetovo - 46, in Kriva Palanka and Mavrovi Anovi - 34, in Skopje and Bitola - 28 litres per square meter.

On Friday, the weather will continue to be changeable, cloudy and cold with rain showers, with a mixture of rain and snow at higher elevations, and snow in the mountains.
