All buildings for the EXPO 2027 international specialized exposition, which will be held in Belgrade from May 15 to August 15, 2027, will be designed according to the highest environmental standards, which will mitigate the dangerously high temperatures during the summer season in the Serbian capital, the Serbian daily newspaper Politika reported on Wednesday.
The roofs will be covered with local plants, which will be watered exclusively with rainwater. As a result, Belgrade will be up to 4C cooler in the summer, architect Danilo Dangubic, who is involved in the design of the buildings for EXPO 2027, told Politika. According to Dangubic, eco-friendly construction will also have an impact on radiation in the centre of the Serbian capital, which will be reduced by about 20%.
"The wooden structures of the exhibition pavilion will be used to build six new schools, kindergartens, and 22 fitness centres in Serbia. This way, the temporary facilities will be given a permanent purpose for children and young people," Dangubic said.
EXPO 2027 Belgrade themed Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All will be the first world exhibition to be held in Serbia.
