Joint teams of Traffic Police officers from Silistra and the neighbouring Romanian city of Calarasi will regulate traffic in August and September, the Interior Ministry Regional Directorate said on Monday. This annual measure is implemented due to the increased flow of Romanian vehicles traveling to Bulgarian resorts and transiting to Greece.
Traditionally, the work of the joint patrols focuses on drivers whose behaviour poses a danger to other road users. Their main targets are compliance with speed limits, illegal overtaking, and driving under the influence.
Romanian officers deployed in the teams assist local police mainly when dealing with Romanian drivers. The most frequently detected violations are speeding and illegal overtaking.
In 2024, the joint control operations started on 16 June.
