Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport, located on the Asian coast of the Turkish metropolis, has been determined to be the fastest growing airport among major European airports.

According to information from the news channel of the Turkish public radio and television TRT Haber, Sabiha Gokcen ranks first among the most dynamically developing airports in Europe based on traffic and passenger data for May this year from the Airports Council International (ACI).

In May, Sabiha Gokcen Airport achieved a passenger growth of 14.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. The airport served 3.95 million passengers in May this year.

A traffic report states that in terms of the number of passengers served in the first 5 months of 2025, Sabiha Gokcen Airport ranks 9th in Europe.

Sabiha Gokcen International Airport is one of two international airports serving Istanbul, the largest city in Turkiye. It is located in the Asian part of the metropolis, located on two continents, and serves as the hub of the private airline Pegasus Airlines, whose planes also serve a route between Sofia and Istanbul.

The second airport in the city, Istanbul Airport, is located on the European side of the city and is larger.
