For the first time in history, Bulgaria is hosting the World Judo Championships, and this is a huge recognition both for the Bulgarian Judo Federation and for our country, said Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Stoyan Andonov on Thursday during the opening of the World Judo Cadets Championships in the "Asics Arena."

More than 500 judokas from nearly 70 countries will take part in the championship, competing for medals in the individual events from August 27 to 30. A team competition will be held on August 31. Bulgaria will be represented by 26 athletes -  13 boys and 13 girls.

"On behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, I would like to thank the Bulgarian Judo Federation for their efforts and dedication, as well as the International and European Judo Federations for the trust they have shown in Bulgaria. Thanks to this, our country is becoming the stage for one of the most prestigious events in the global sports calendar," Andonov added.

As part of the championship, Deputy Minister Andonov awarded the medals to the winners in the under-60 kg cadet category. The gold medal was won by Yernur Batyrgali (Kazakhstan), the silver went to Loiq Kudbudinov (Tajikistan), and the bronze medals were awarded to Zeyd Alasgarov (Azerbaijan) and Dilshod Karimov (Uzbekistan).
