About 41.7% of Romanians fear that their country may be dragged into war, shows a poll conducted by the INSCOP sociological agency, as quoted by Digi24 television. The possibility of a conflict or a war involving Romania is the biggest worry of the Balkan country’s inhabitants, the poll found.

INSCOP CEO Remus Stefureac commented: “The escalating war in Ukraine, hostile propaganda creating discord in society, and disinformation are among the reasons for such a perception. Security risks are real and cause concern among Romanians.”

“That is why public confidence in NATO and the military is so high, and most people favour increasing spending on equipment for the Romanian Armed Forces, as shown by earlier INSCOP polls,” Stefureac said.

Other major concerns of Romanians are possible health problems (15%), rising prices (14.9%), restrictions on fundamental rights and freedoms (9.2%), falling incomes (8.2%), job loss (5.4%), and deterioration of the environment (1.6%). Some 2.4% of respondents name other issues, and 1.6% say they don’t know or refrain from answering the question.

The poll was conducted between May 26 and 30 among 1,150 adult respondents.
