A signature-collection campaign calling for snap parliamentary elections in Serbia was held in Bosilegrad on December 28. More than 100 residents of the town in Southern Serbia voiced their support for the initiative calling for early elections. The petition was initiated by protesting students.

Thousands of people in Serbia signed a petition on Sunday urging President Aleksandar Vucic to call snap parliamentary elections.

The signature stand in Bosilegrad was set up in the town centre for four hours in the afternoon. The students said the aim of the campaign was to engage directly with people, hear citizens' views on the spot, and gauge the level of public support for the demand for snap elections, stressing that this should be a shared civic cause.

The initiative was organized across Serbia, with more than 400 signing points in over 100 municipalities. High turnout was reported in many locations, with participants often saying that by signing they wanted to stand behind "these young people" and step up pressure for the political crisis to be resolved through elections. The total number of signatures has not yet been announced officially. The students have said they will inform the public of the results and the next steps in the coming days.

"Come and sign the victory! Sign the solution! Leave us your contact details and we will regularly send you updates on our actions and guide you on how you can become an active participant in this struggle. Become a monitor. Help raise awareness in your community. From Sunday, we continue together," the students said in a leaflet prepared for the campaign. For people living abroad, the online form is expected to become available on December 29, and will be accessible for 24 hours.

Over the past year, mass anti-government protests led by students have been held across the country, triggered by an incident in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad, where on November 1, 2024, the concrete canopy of a recently renovated railway station collapsed, killing 16 people and seriously injuring one.
