Following a long-standing tradition, the community of Orthodox Bulgarians in Istanbul celebrated Christmas on Thursday. At the Church of St. John of Rila of the Bulgarian Exarchate, a Christmas liturgy was officiated by the priest of the Bulgarian churches in Turkiye, Archimandrite Charalambos Nichev, and Metropolitan Naum of Ruse, who arrived especially for the holiday.
Among the official guests was Consul Atanas Dimov from the Bulgarian Consulate General in Istanbul.
On behalf of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, a wreath was sent to the Bulgarian community on the occasion.
The solemn service lasted more than an hour and was attended by a large number of Orthodox Christians in Istanbul. The Bulgarian community's church choir performed Christmas carols.
Archimandrite Charalambos Nichev blessed the congregation.
After the church service, the Christmas and New Year celebrations of the Bulgarians in Istanbul took place in the representative hall of the Exarchate.
