Ten foreign nationals without identification documents were detained near Sofia during a special operation conducted by officers from the Directorate for Countering Illegal Migration of the General Directorate Border Police, alongside the Special Tactical Operations sector of the Dragoman Regional Directorate of the Border Police, the General Directorate announced on Tuesday.

Near the village of Pasarel, Sofia City region, on the road from Samokov to Sofia, a driver attempted to evade a police road checkpoint but was stopped and apprehended. Upon inspection, border police discovered nine foreign nationals without any identification inside the vehicle. The driver was also a foreign citizen without documents.

The individuals were detained for up to 24 hours. An officer from the Investigation Department examined the scene, the vehicle was seized, and all persons were searched. The case will be forwarded to the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office.

Last week, a group of migrants along with two drivers were detained near Burgas, on the Black Sea coast.

Interior Minister Daniel Mitov told The Times on Monday that Russian intelligence operatives and far-left humanitarian groups are collaborating with human traffickers to flood Europe with illegal migrants.
