President Rumen Radev welcomed his Hungarian counterpart, Tamas Sulyok, at an official ceremony on St Alexander Nevsky Square in Sofia on Monday. Sulyok, who is paying an official visit to Bulgaria at Radev's invitation, laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.

The two heads of State are scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting at the Bulgarian President's Administration, followed by plenary talks between the official delegations of the two countries. Afterwards, Radev and Sulyok will make joint statements to the media.

Discussions between the presidents and their delegations are expected to focus on opportunities to deepen bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Hungary in the fields of economy, energy, trade, transport, education and science, tourism, sport, and culture. Topics on the European and international agenda, as well as current security challenges, are also expected to be addressed.

Sulyok visited Bulgaria's southern town of Smolyan on Sunday to mark Bulgarian-Hungarian Friendship Day and the centenary of Hungarian poet and translator Laszlo Nagy. The two presidents visited the Laszlo Nagy House-Museum and later attended an exhibition and a music-and-poetry performance at the Nikolay Haytov Rhodope Drama Theatre.
