The 9th UN Tourism Global Conference on Wine Tourism is putting Plovdiv in the global spotlight of wine tourism, Plovdiv Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov said at a press conference ahead of the event, which will take place here on October 6 and 7.

He noted that Plovdiv deserves to host the conference, as the city is a crossroads that offers not only facilities such as accommodation and conference venues but also a tradition and potential for future development. In addition to its archaeological and historical attractions and cultural heritage, which every visitor can experience, Plovdiv has the potential to further expand its tourism sector. “We have achieved a lot thanks to the expansion of the cultural calendar and the creation of new tourist destinations,” Dimitrov said.

“For Plovdiv, it’s important to build upon the city’s events. Alongside Young Wine Parade, the Wine and Gourmet Festival, Vinaria, and the Mavrud Festival, we now have another event that places us in the global spotlight of wine tourism,” Dimitrov noted.

The mayor thanked the Tourism Ministry and the Minister for their trust and expressed confidence that Plovdiv would offer good organization and hospitality. “Plovdiv is the heart of Thrace, which has winemaking traditions and is at the centre of a region with outstanding wineries. Beyond our hospitality, we will show a warm attitude and full support for the event,” the Plovdiv Mayor added.
