site.btaTransport Minister Inspects Construction Activities on Kostenets-Septemvri Railway Line

Deputy Prime Minister and Transport and Communications Minister Grozdan Karadjov inspected the construction activities on the Kostenets-Septemvri railway line on Tuesday.

"Today it became clear that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for Bulgaria's railways", he noted, adding that a symbolic demolition of the last centimetres of the stone wall that separated the two tunnels has been carried out.

On May 21, the government allocated BGN 238 million to pay overdue indexations of companies carrying out railway repairs. The digging of the largest tunnel in this section, with a length of nearly 2.5 kilometres, was completed in August.  

"This is a small section, but it is of exceptional importance for the Bulgarian transport system, because it is an element of the modernization of the railway route from Sofia to Burgas", Karadjov emphasized.

The rehabilitation of the railway section will resolve one of the main difficulties facing the Pan-European Railway Network in Southeast Europe, located on the path of the shortest connection between Western and Central Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
