Bulgarian Tourist Trips Up 4.1% in Q2 2025 Y/Y

In the second quarter of 2025, 1.3 million Bulgarians travelled for tourism, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported on Tuesday. Of these, 67.5% travelled only within the country, 25.8% abroad, and 6.7% both domestically and internationally. The number of travellers aged 15 and over increased by 4.1% year-on-year.

By comparison, 1.2 million people travelled in Q2 2024, with 71.3% staying within Bulgaria, 22.6% going abroad, and 6.1% traveling both ways. That represented a 3.1% rise from Q2 2023.

In Q2 2025, food expenses had the largest share of total spending: 42.6% for domestic trips and 34.5% for foreign trips. The average personal travel expense was BGN 296.83 in Bulgaria and BGN 858.55 abroad.

A year earlier, food also accounted for the largest portion of expenses, 40.8% domestically and 34.3% abroad, with average personal travel costs of BGN 292.20 for domestic trips and BGN 846.41 for trips abroad.
