Continue the Change (CC) has launched a new initiative to collect the required 80 MP signatures to dismiss Anton Slavchev as acting Chair of the Counter-Corruption Commission (CCC) and the Unlawfully Acquired Assets Forfeiture Commission (UAAFC), the party’s press office reported on Thursday.

Following what the party describes as politically motivated high-profile actions targeting only opposition figures, and amid allegations of pressure to commit perjury, the CC stated that Slavchev’s continued leadership of both commissions has become “completely intolerable.”

CC expressed full support for the demand by the BOEC civic organization calling for Slavchev’s resignation.

On August 9, 2024, the Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) parliamentary group tabled in Parliament a draft resolution on the release of Slavchev from his responsibilities as acting Chairperson of CCC and UAAFC. Slavchev has been temporarily heading both commissions since the split of the Commission for Counter-Corruption and Unlawfully Acquired Assets Forfeiture without being elected by the rules.

According to CC-DB, Slavchev's dismissal was sought because "by actions and inactions, he seriously violates the law and persistently derelicts his official duties. He does not ensure transparency and does not implement court judgments. The commissions do not operate effectively, the court routinely rejects the forfeiture claims. The governance is non-transparent and the personnel policy is bad".
