European Union annual inflation was 2.3% in June 2025 compared to 2.2% in May 2025, Eurostat reported on Thursday. Inflation in the euro area jumped from 1.9% in May to 2% in June, while that in Bulgaria rose from 2.9% to 3.1%.

Inflation rates in the European Union, euro area, and Bulgaria in June 2024 were 2.6%, 2.5% and 2.8% respectively.

The lowest annual rates were registered in Cyprus at 0.5%, France at 0.9% and Ireland at 1.6%. The highest annual rates were recorded in Romania at 5.8%, Estonia at 5.2%, Hungary and Slovakia both at 4.6%.

The highest contribution to the annual euro area inflation rate in June 2025 came from services, followed by food, alcohol and tobacco, non-energy industrial goods.

Annual average inflation in Bulgaria over the last 12 months as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices amounted to 2.8% in June, rising by 0.1 percentage point compared to the previous month. Despite the slight acceleration in inflation, Bulgaria continues to meet the Maastricht criteria on price stability, which state that inflation over the past 12 months should not exceed the rate of consumer prices in the three best-performing Member States by more than 1.5 percentage points in terms of price stability.

In June, the countries with the lowest annual average inflation over the past 12 months were Ireland at 1.2%, France at 1.4%, Italy and Finland at 1.5% each. This means that the reference value for the fulfilment of the price stability criterion in June amounted to 2.86%, which is above the reported average annual inflation in Bulgaria of 2.8%.
