Speaking to the media in Balchik, Minister of Culture Marian Bachev said that the session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which was chaired by Bulgaria, was very successful. “We received an extremely good response. We presented our tangible and intangible cultural heritage. All the delegates had the opportunity to enjoy what we had prepared as an accompanying programme,” he said.

Bachev added that the most important thing was that Bulgaria's good name was preserved and the commitment was fulfilled. “We have preserved Bulgaria’s name as a defender of cultural and historical heritage. ... I cannot help but be happy that in the situation we were put in, we solved the problem in the best way,” the Minister added.

The 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held under the presidency of Bulgaria, runs until July 16 at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris. As part of the session, Bulgaria presented elements of its cultural and natural heritage.

UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee is one of the two governing bodies responsible for implementing the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. It is composed of representatives from 21 countries elected from among the 196 States Parties to the Convention.
