site.btaBulgaria Takes Part in Month of Francophonie in Skopje

As a regular participant in Francophone Film Week in the Republic of North Macedonia, Bulgaria was represented with a screening of director Niki Iliev’s film "The Foreigner" at the Cinematheque in Skopje on Tuesday evening. The event was made possible by the Bulgarian Embassy in cooperation with the Bulgarian Cultural and Information Centre in Skopje and the State Institute for Culture under the Foreign Minister.
Some of the events planned for the Month of Francophonie in North Macedonia were originally scheduled for March and later postponed due to the tragedy in Kocani. Bulgaria remained involved through an educational presentation as part of the campaign Study in French at Bulgarian Universities. The event attracted a large number of pupils and prospective students from schools across Skopje, including pupils from the Bulgarian Sunday school in the city. The event showcased the French Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Sofia, French-language economics and management programmes at Sofia University’s Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, and the Francophonie, Multilingualism and Intercultural Mediation master's programme at Sofia University. The initiative was organized in partnership with the Bulgarian Embassy, the Bulgarian Cultural and Information Centre in Skopje, and the Institut français in North Macedonia’s capital.
Bulgaria also took part in a cultural presentation event for the countries participating in Francophonie Week, held at Kiro Gligorov Primary School in Skopje. Bulgaria was represented by teachers and students from Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi Primary School in the city. Representatives from the Bulgarian Embassy visited the Bulgarian stand and joined a tree-planting ceremony in the schoolyard, held in memory of the victims of the Kocani tragedy.
As part of a reading initiative for French language learners, a student from Josip Broz Tito Primary School read an excerpt from The Physics of Sorrow by Bulgarian author Georgi Gospodinov.
Bulgaria has been a full-fledged member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie since 1993.
