The EU embraced the concept of a "new beginning" and turned a blind eye to the mafia that has taken over Bulgaria, said Velichie’s Floor Leader Ivelin Mihaylov, speaking to journalists in the National Assembly here on Thursday.

"Recently, there have been some photos – [MRF- New Beginning leader] Delyan Peevski somewhere, perhaps here in the National Assembly, being photographed with certain mayors and MPs who support the 'new beginning' concept. Yesterday [Wednesday] we saw how the EU adopted the 'new beginning' concept and turned a blind eye to the mafia that has taken over Bulgaria," Mihaylov commented.

On Wednesday, Bulgaria received a positive assessment from the European Commission and the European Central Bank regarding the fulfillment of criteria for joining the eurozone as of January 1, 2026.

"The EU fails to notice that the institutions providing data for the reports are turning a blind eye to all sorts of colossal crimes. This means that in some way, the EU is part of a scheme we cannot comprehend," Mihaylov further commented. "As people who believed that by joining the EU we were heading toward a better place, we are shocked and disheartened. We are not desperate, but clearly something needs to change," he added.
