On May 15 and 16, political consultations were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Cyprus at the level of Directors General for European Affairs, the press centre of the line ministry said on Friday.
The Bulgarian delegation was led by Yordan Parvanov, and Cyprus was represented by Haris Christodoulou, Secretary General for European Affairs.
The Republic of Cyprus will assume the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026. This will be the second Cypriot presidency of the Council of the EU after 2012.
Bulgaria and Cyprus hold similar positions on a number of topics on the European agenda and have established good cooperation and dialogue both within the EU and in other international forums.
The two delegations discussed current issues on the European agenda, including: the next Multiannual Financial Framework, the future of the EU, the situation in the region, EU enlargement, the rule of law, migration, energy cooperation.
The two sides also discussed bilateral cooperation and the possibilities for its deepening, the statement said.
