site.btaFIDE, European Chess Union: Association Bulgarian Chess Federation 2022's License Should Be Revoked

The Bulgarian Chess Federation 2022 (BCF 2022) will appeal a decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) before a federal court in Switzerland. The Court did not admit for consideration a complaint by BCF 2022 due to procedural reasons but confirmed that the application by BCF 2022 for membership of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) had not been considered according to the required high standards and that the omission to discuss the application by FIDE General Assembly violated the right of the organization to appeal the dismissal of its candidacy.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (Switzerland) has confirmed that the application of the Bulgarian Chess Federation 2022 (BFC 2022) for membership in the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was not considered under the necessary high standards for such a procedure in an international organization, said BFC 2022 Executive Director Bozhidar Pelov in a press release.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Georgi Glushkov commented on the situation with Bulgarian chess, which is facing the threat of not being represented at the upcoming 2024 Chess Olympiad in Budapest on September 10-23.
