The Thursday sitting of the National Assembly began with a minute of silence in memory of Bulgarian Patriarch and Sofia Metropolitan Neophyte. On Wednesday evening, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church - Bulgarian Patriarchate made known the death of Patriarch Neophyte.
"Yesterday we lost the spiritual father of the Bulgarian people, who led the Bulgarian Orthodox Church with wisdom, dignity and care for all believers, a champion of unity, peace and prosperity. I urge you to honour His Holiness with a minute of silence and to pray for the repose of his soul," Parliament Chair Rosen Zhelyazkov said at the beginning of the session.
