The antennas of Chicago's iconic Willis Tower will be illuminated in the colours of the Bulgarian national flag on the country's National Day, March 3, for the second year in a row, Svetoslav Stankov, Bulgarian Consul General in the third most populous US city, says on his Facebook profile.

The Willis Tower, originally the Sears Tower, is a 110-storey, 442.3 m skyscraper. It is the tallest building in Chicago and was the tallest one in the world from 1973 to 1998.

Estimates vary, but US sources put the number of Bulgarians living in Chicago at around 20,000, which makes them the largest Bulgarian community in the US.

The National Day initiative is the result of excellent cooperation between the Bulgarian Consulate General and the company which owns the building, Stankov says.

The antennas of the skyscraper will be illuminated in white, green and red from sundown to 11 p.m. (US central standard time) on Sunday, March 3.
