President Rumen Radev held a telephone conversation with his Greek counterpart Katerina Sakellaropoulou regarding the fires that swept Greece, the Presidency said Wednesday. Radev stressed that the Hellenic Republic can count on Bulgaria's support in extinguishing the fire, along with the firefighting teams, equipment and machinery already sent.

On July 26, 50 Bulgarian firefighters and 15 vehicles were sent to the island of Corfu to help extinguish the flames. A further 22 Bulgarian firefighters and four cars remained in Thessaloniki.

Radev expressed his condolences and sympathy with the Greek people on the tragic incident in which a firefighting plane crashed and its two pilots died while extinguishing a forest fire on the island of Euboea. Rumen Radev and Katerina Sakellaropoulou expressed their mutual understanding that Bulgaria and Greece are an example of solidarity as well as cooperation in solving crises in the region.
