The Foreign Ministry of North Macedonia has urged against rush conclusion until all facts about Tuesday’s assault on Bekir Kadrieski have been established. The Ministry specifies that on Tuesday evening a suspect, A.N. from Velesta, has been questioned and a prosecutor has been notified.

„This incident should not cast a shadow on the institutional efforts in North Macedonia to protect the rights and interests of smaller communities, including efforts for constitutional guarantees of their rights, including of the Bulgarian community,” the Ministry says. Also, it urges the public and the political entities in Bulgaria to allow state institutions to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and take steps in compliance with law.”

Kadrieski told BTA that he does not know his assailant. There was a group of several men, but the assailant was one. Unprovoked, he started verbally abusing Kadrieski and punched him in the stomach while the other men were holding him. Kadrieski is still in hospital and says that he is dizzy and is not feeling well.

At noon on Tuesday, Bekir Kadriski, who is chairman of the Shemeto Association of Bulgarians in Struga, was verbally abused and assaulted in a café near the sports hall in Struga. Kadrieski is not a Bulgaria citizens. The Bulgarian Embassy in North Macedonia and the General Consulate in Bitola are following the case, and the consul visited Struga on Tuesday.
