Cervical Cancer Vaccinations
Two Times Fewer This Year,
Experts Say

Vurshets, Northwestern Bulgaria, November 17 (BTA) - The number
of vaccinations against human papillomavirus, the principal
cause of cervical cancer, has declined twofold this year, the
Chairman of the Bulgarian Innovative Medicine Association,
Valeri Tsekov, told journalists Monday. He was speaking at a
seminar dedicated to modern aspects of vaccine preventive
diseases.

There are nearly 30,000 potential immunization recipients. Last
year the greatest coverage was achieved in Dobrich (14 per
cent). Those who received vaccines in Sofia were 2.8 per cent,
over 8 per cent in Sliven and 3.6 per cent in Kyustendil.

A total of 27.5 per 100,000 women get cervical cancer every year
and one woman dies of the disease every day, said Dr. Lyubomir
Kirov, Chairman of the National Association of General
Practitioners in Bulgaria. /PK/BR/
