site.btaWriters' Union of Moldova Branch in Taraclia Marks Five Years

A collection of works by authors from Iskra, the Taraclia branch of the A.S. Pushkin Writers' Union of Moldova, was presented in Taraclia on June 12.

The collection, compiled by Nikolay Kurtev (also known as Nicolay Curtev), spans around 200 pages and features poetry, prose, drama and journalism in Bulgarian and Russian. Elena Pancheva is literary editor and proofreader, and Stepan Paskov handled the computer layout.  The collection took around a year and a half to prepare.

The foreword says that the aim of the collection is to showcase the work of both established and emerging authors from the Iskra branch, bring them together, and encourage a creative atmosphere among young people and students.

The event was attended by representatives of literary, public and educational organizations from Moldova and Bulgaria, local authorities, cultural figures and journalists.

Dr Kurtev, head of the Iskra branch, noted that the literary movement in Taraclia dates back to 1989 with the Inspiration Club. The branch was established on November 13, 2020. He said the book launch is the main event marking the anniversary.

Over the past five years, writers from Taraclia District have published more than 20 books, with their works presented in Chisinau, Taraclia and elsewhere in the region, as well as in Sofia and Shumen in Bulgaria. He also noted that works by Anna Maleshkova, Nikolay Kurtev and Tatiana Tanasova have been included in university curricula in Moldova and abroad.

Victor Raileanu, head of the A.S. Pushkin Writers' Union, highlighted the importance of the Iskra branch in preserving Bulgarian traditions, literature and cultural heritage in Moldova, noting that authors write in both Bulgarian and Russian, combining the two literary traditions.

Local authorities, literary organizations and representatives of the Bulgarian community congratulated the branch members. The programme included poetry readings and presentations by awarded authors.
