site.btaBulgarian Tennis Player Ivan Ivanov Finishes Fourth in Piotr Nurowski Best Young European Athlete Awards

Bulgarian tennis player Ivan Ivanov was honoured at a gala ceremony in Budapest during the presentation of the Piotr Nurowski Awards for Europe's best young athletes.

The ceremony was attended by International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry and Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) President Vesela Lecheva.

Ivanov finished fourth in the competition and received a financial award to support his training and preparation. The top prize was shared by fencer Amalia Covaliu and athlete Alika Inkery Moser.

Ivanov became the first Bulgarian to reach the finals of the summer edition of the awards. Snowboarder Malena Zamfirova won the winter sports category earlier this year.

"Ivan's achievement is exceptional because he was the only boy among the finalists. I believe many more ceremonies like this lie ahead of him, where he will receive recognition for his hard work and dedication," Lecheva said.

Earlier, Coventry took part in the 55th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in Budapest, where she highlighted Europe's central role in the Olympic Movement and its contribution to raising standards worldwide.

According to Coventry, Europe has always played a decisive and central role in the Olympic Movement, not only by hosting incredible Games, as witnessed in Paris and Milan-Cortina, but also through ideas and leadership.

On the opening day of the assembly, the IOC President also congratulated Vesela Lecheva on officially taking office as President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee.
