Limiting Transport's Harmful Effects on Environment Is Among Ministry's Priorities

Sofia, December 16 (BTA) - Limiting the harmful effects of
transport on the environment is one of the Transport Ministry's
priorities, said Deputy Minister of Transport Anton Ginev here
on Thursday during the opening of a forum, presenting the
activities of the Green Freight Transport Cluster.

Ginev said that his Ministry's efforts are focused on
stimulating the development of environmentally friendly forms of
transport, such as railway, water and intermodal. Very good
results were achieved in recent years regarding OP Transport
2007-2013, the Deputy Minister recalled, adding that a project,
financed under the Programme, is underway for the construction
of an intermodal terminal in Plovdiv (South-central Bulgaria)
and its construction is expected to start very soon.

The total budget of OP Transport and Transport Infrastructure
for the 2014-2020 period is 1.9 billion euro, of which 673
million are provided for the development of the railroad
infrastructure and 24 million euro for building intermodal
terminals, Ginev said. He assured the forum participants that
his Ministry will continue to award concessions for the
development of ports, airports and railway stations.
