Alexander Asenov won the long jump title and a silver medal in the 100 metres at the athletics competition of the BAUHAUS Down Syndrome World Championships Bulgaria 2026 in Sofia. BTA is a media partner of the event.

Asenov, who won gold in the triathlon with a new world record on Monday, triumphed in his second event of the day, claiming the long jump title with a leap of 4.52 metres.

About two hours before securing the gold medal, he finished second in the 100m final in 13.34 seconds and was visibly emotional after narrowly missing out on first place.

In the heats, the Bulgarian clocked 13.52 seconds, the fastest time in the third series.

Gabriel Alejandro Gonzalez of Mexico won the 100m title in 13.23 seconds.

Nearly 400 athletes from 27 countries are taking part in the World Championships for athletes with Down syndrome. Bulgaria is represented by 20 competitors across all five sports on the programme: athletics, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, tennis and table tennis.
