Bessarabian Bulgarian Mykola Bulekov from the Vasylivka rural community in Ukraine's Bolhrad District was killed on the frontline in late May, the Bolhrad District State Administration said on its website.
The 31-year-old junior sergeant was killed during a combat mission on the Dnipropetrovsk front due to enemy shelling. He was buried in his native Bulgarian village of Kalcheva.
The Bolhrad District State Administration offered condolences to the bereaved family.
Bolhrad District comprises eight settlement and rural municipalities (Vasylivka, Krynychne, Kubei, Horodnie, Bessarabske, Budzhak, Teplytsia and Pavlivka) and two urban municipalities (Bolhrad and Artsyz). The July 2020 administrative reform expanded Bolhrad District, where ethnic Bulgarians account for more than 60% of the population.
