site.btaDr Atanas Atanasov Heads Executive Agency Medical Supervision

Dr Atanas Atanasov is the new head of the Executive Agency Medical Supervision (EAMS), the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday.

Atanasov graduated from the Varna Medical University. Completed his residency in Surgery in Sofia. Holds a PhD in Public Health and Health Management. Experience in the healthcare system, including in the management of municipal and state healthcare facilities.

A key priority for the new director will be strengthening oversight of the healthcare system, responding more quickly to reports from citizens, and increasing transparency in the activities of the EAMS. Atanasov will work to digitize the registry of patients awaiting transplants and to improve coordination among healthcare facilities involved in the donation and transplantation process.

In late February, caretaker Minister of Health Michail Okoliyski dismissed Ivanka Dineva as Director of the EAMS in order to address the need to improve coordination and effectiveness in managing donor situations in the country and to optimize processes for selecting suitable recipients for transplants of Bulgarian citizens.
