site.btaPrices of Staple Foods, Fruit and Vegetables Are Stable
There are no significant changes in the prices of most basic food products, fruits, and vegetables on wholesale markets in the past week, according to the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets.
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI), which reflects the movement of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, increased by 0.07% to 2.600 points, compared to 2.598 points the previous week. The base level of the index (1.000 points) dates back to 2005.
Among vegetables, the largest price increase is seen in green peppers, which rose 6.16% and are traded at EUR 2.93/kg wholesale. At the same time, red peppers decreased by 2.51%, reaching EUR 2.64/kg.
A slight increase is also observed for tomatoes, up 0.94% to EUR 1.94/kg, and cabbage, up 0.82% to EUR 0.49/kg.
The largest price drop is seen in potatoes, which fell 5.04% to EUR 0.49/kg. Prices also declined for carrots, down 3.13% to EUR 0.62/kg, and onions, down 2.54% to EUR 0.46/kg.
Minimal decreases were also recorded for cucumbers, down 0.16% to EUR 2.52/kg, and zucchini, down 0.14% to EUR 2.82/kg.
Price increases this week were observed for lemons, up 3.88% to EUR 2.09/kg, and tangerines, up 3.69% to EUR 1.46/kg. Meanwhile, bananas became cheaper, down 4.95% to EUR 1.46/kg, apples fell 4.49% to EUR 1.19/kg, and oranges decreased 1.28% to EUR 1.23/kg.
The price of cow’s brine cheese dropped 1.34% to EUR 6.03/kg, and Vitosha-type yellow cheese decreased 0.62% to EUR 9.61/kg. Yogurt (3% and above fat content) increased by 2.31%, selling at EUR 0.71 per 400 g cup, and milk rose 2.46% to EUR 1.25 per liter. The price of butter (125 g pack) is slightly higher, trading at EUR 1.68 per pack, an increase of 0.12%.
Frozen poultry meat decreased by 0.95% to EUR 3.53/kg, while medium-sized eggs (M) increased 0.92% to EUR 0.22 per egg wholesale.
The price of rice rose 1.58% to EUR 1.67/kg, and cooking oil increased 1.86% to EUR 1.75 per liter. Sugar also became slightly more expensive, up 0.22% to EUR 0.95/kg. Beans fell 3.27% to EUR 1.95/kg. Prices also dropped for type 500 flour, down 2.63% to EUR 0.74/kg, and lentils, down 1.57% to EUR 2.01/kg.
