Parliament Thursday put off until next week a hearing of a Deputy Energy Minister and of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant CEO Ivan Andreev over “escalating costs for the annual planned maintenance programmes of Units 5 and 6 in 2026, including multimillion-euro deliveries in violation of the Public Procurement Act, which have led to reasonable suspicions of preparations to siphon off tens of millions of leva in public funds.”

The hearing was included in the agenda on a motion by the Vazrazhdane party.

Parliament Chair Raya Nazaryan said Andreev had informed the MPs in a letter that, due to personal commitments of both himself and his deputies related to critical restart operations of Unit 6, he would be unable to attend this week’s sitting and would appear at a hearing next week.

Also on the agenda, again at the request of Vazrazhdane, is a hearing of Deputy Energy Minister Krasimir Nenov and Plamen Mladenovski, Chair of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, regarding increased electricity bills and the numerous complaints submitted in recent months.

Parliament will also discuss on second reading amendments to the Social Security Code, the vote on which was postponed last week. The changes introduce a multi-fund model in supplementary pension insurance.

The agenda also includes the first reading of amendments to the Corporate Income Tax Act.

A first reading is also scheduled for five draft bills to amend and supplement the Criminal Code. On February 24, the parliamentary legal committee approved four of them and rejected one.

The agenda also includes a first reading of amendments to the Railway Transport Act, submitted by the Council of Ministers of Bulgaria. The proposals envisage designating the Railway Administration Executive Agency as the registering authority in railway transport in line with the requirements of an implementing decision of the European Commission.
