Commenting on the Cabinet line-up proposed by caretaker prime minister-designate Andrey Gurov on Wednesday, Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader Krum Zarkov said that each minister will ultimately be judged by their results. ”However, one thing is clear — following the latest constitutional amendments, it is no longer the President who can be held responsible for this Cabinet,” Zarkov wrote on Facebook, referring to the basic law revisions passed by Parliament in late 2023.

He added that the same constitutional amendments established that the National Assembly would operate continuously to oversee the work of the caretaker government. “MPs who are directing their arrows at [President] Iliana Iotova could be more useful if they simply focused on doing their job,” the BSP leader said.

Earlier in the day, caretaker prime minister–designate Andrey Gurov presented the composition of his government to President Iliana Iotova, who said she would issue decrees appointing the caretaker Cabinet and scheduling elections for April 19.
