site.btaGovernment Clears EUR 8.55m for New Locomotives and Overhauls
The Council of Ministers approved additional spending under the Ministry of Transport and Communications budget, the government press service said here on Wednesday.
The EUR 8,550,964 will be used as a capital transfer to settle liabilities for the delivery of new locomotives and for major overhauls of passenger rolling stock operated by BDZ Passenger Transport.
Funding will be provided under Article 3(3) of the Act on the Collection of Revenue and the Incurring of Expenditure in 2026, pending the adoption of the State Budget Act of the Republic of Bulgaria for 2026.
Parliament adopted a 2025-to-2026 budget extension act, which entered into force on January 1, 2026, while the regular State Budget Act of the Republic of Bulgaria for 2026 remains pending. In the rail sector, the cabinet in December 2025 approved BGN 40 million in repayable financial assistance for BDZ Passenger Transport to secure winter operations, amid ongoing rolling-stock renewal, including capital transfers for refurbished passenger cars under the Deutsche Bahn programme and the entry into service of Siemens Smartron electric locomotives.
