Vazrazhdane submitted a proposal to the National Assembly for a joint hearing in the plenary chamber of key institutions over rising prices of goods and services following the introduction of the euro, MP Peter Petrov said on Wednesday. The proposal calls for senior officials from the central bank, consumer protection bodies, the ombudsman’s office and the revenue agency to be questioned over bank practices, price increases and payment restrictions.

The proposal seeks a joint hearing of Bulgarian National Bank Governor Dimitar Radev on oversight of commercial banks and reports of fees, restrictions and refusals to exchange levs into euros; Consumer Protection Commission acting chair Aleksandar Kolyachev over numerous complaints about unjustified price increases and deliberate restrictions on payment methods; Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria Velislava Delcheva regarding her actions following publicly reported banking violations; and National Revenue Agency Executive Director Hristo Markov on inspections of retailers who raised prices or imposed payment restrictions after January 1, 2026.

The issues cited include the charging of additional bank fees, requirements for declarations on the origin of funds even for amounts below BGN 1,000, fees for counting coins and shortages of euro banknotes.

Vazrazhdane proposed that the joint hearing be placed as the first item on the National Assembly’s agenda for Wednesday.

The new parliamentary session on Wednesday opens with amendments to the National Service for Protection Act, according to the draft weekly agenda published on the National Assembly’s website.
