Bulgarian national team snowboarder Alexander Krashniak opened the new year with a strong performance, finishing second in the parallel giant slalom event of the European Cup in alpine snowboarding in Folgaria, Italy.

In the big final, Krashniak was beaten by experienced Slovenian Rok Marguc, who is 18 years older and has one World Cup victory and a total of 11 World Cup podiums.

The strong Bulgarian showing was rounded out by a fifth-place finish for Petar Gergyovski.

Also competing in Folgaria were Kristian Georgiev, Aleksandar Georgov and Stoyan Pepelyanov, who were eliminated in the qualifications.
