The Sofia Directorate of the Ministry of Interior have urged drivers to abandon their cars due to the winter conditions in the capital. Because of the complicated winter situation, drivers are advised not to use their vehicles on Thursday unless travel is urgent.

At present, a large part of Sofia’s main road arteries have not been treated, which creates conditions for traffic accidents, the police added. Additional traffic police teams, along with reinforcements from other law enforcement units, are on the ground to help normalize traffic and assist stranded drivers. Police also reported that the removal of a snowplow that caught fire this morning in the area of the village of Voluyak has been secured.

Due to the sudden change in weather, there are difficulties affecting part of Sofia’s public transport. The Center for Urban Mobility posted a warning on Facebook saying that because of the winter weather conditions, traffic in the city is disrupted and delays in services are possible.
