The Srechenska Bara Reservoir in Northwestern Bulgaria has been full for more than a month, which guarantees water supply to Montana, Vratsa, Berkovitsa, Varshets and about twenty other smaller settlements in the coming months, Montana Regional Governor Kalin Haitov told BTA on Monday.
Currently, there are 15.2 million cubic metres of water of a maximum possible volume of 15.5 million cubic metres in the reservoir, with Haitov noting that the reservoir was filled in the second half of November 2025 due to rainfall and snow, and has remained at its maximum level.
Currently, about 220 million cubic metres of water have been collected in the Ogosta reservoir near Montana, which has a maximum possible capacity of 506 million cubic metres. Haitov emphasised that the reservoir, which is the second largest in Bulgaria and the Balkan region, can absorb incoming rainwater without risking flooding in Montana and the settlements along the Ogosta River.
