The Bulgarian Basilica in the Ukrainian city of Artsyz is almost 70% complete, Blagovesta Vasileva, chair of the Great Basilica from Pliska to Artsyz Association said at a news conference at the National Press Club of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) in Sofia on Monday.
The organization is conducting a fundraising campaign to build a spiritual and cultural centre in the Ukrainian city of Artsyz, about 100 kilometres from Odesa. The organization's project was presented at the news conference. It replicates three of the greatest examples of the First Bulgarian Empire in full scale, the Great Basilica of the capital Pliska, as well as the two renowned basilicas of Nessebar and Veliki Preslav.
The news conference was also attended by Archpriest Gennady Martynov, rector of the basilica, responsible for the construction of the entire complex, whose ancestors emigrated from the Adrianople region 200 years ago and settled in Ukraine, manciple Metodi Korchev, church council chair at the St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra in Lycia Church in the capital's Vrabnitsa borough, Mladen Stanev, chair of the Association of Bulgarians Around the World, Eleonora Negulova, chair of the National Association of Small and Medium Business, and Maxim Strahilov, secretary general of the Association of Bulgarians Abroad.
