site.btaVice President Iotova: Every World Meeting of Bulgarian Media Makes History

"Every World Meeting of Bulgarian Media is an event that makes history," Bulgarian Vice President Iliana Iotova said at the opening of the 20th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media at the BTA National Press Club in Sofia on Saturday. The annual meetings are organized by BTA.
According to Iotova, these events send very important messages from Bulgaria and to Bulgaria from around the world.
She congratulated BTA, National Radio and National Television on the initiative 14 Centuries of Bulgaria in Europe. According to the Vice President, the theme for the 20th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media, which is "Media and Knowledge," is the most appropriate one that could be chosen, because the main function of the media is to inform, that is, to create knowledge.
Thanks to the Bulgarian journalists working abroad, their colleagues at home have been able to maintain very direct contacts with expatriate communities over the last few years, to exchange views and ideas with them, Iotova said. She congratulated BTA on running a news service for and about expatriates, called BG World.
She suggested that the theme of the current meeting, "Media and Knowledge," could be extended to become "Media, Knowledge, and Unity." The "Unity" part would stand for the unity of Bulgarian media at home and abroad, between the Bulgarians and their media worldwide, between the Bulgarians in Bulgaria and those in other countries. This was probably the "web" that the founder of the World Meetings, the late BTA director general Maxim Minchev, envisioned, Iotova noted. This unity also implies an ambition to make Bulgaria a modern country that holds a worthy place in Europe and the world.
The Vice President extended birthday greetings to Kiril Valchev, the BTA chief.
