Around 92 million jobs are expected to disappear globally, while 170 million new ones will be created, according to projections by the World Economic Forum, WEBIT Foundation Board Executive Chairman Plamen Russev said during the Bulgaria Across Five Oceans career forum in Sofia on Saturday.
Russev stressed that people need to understand their opportunities and create economic value, adding that Bulgarians have the potential to contribute more to global development.
He argued that education is increasingly becoming a certification system, noting that even leading universities often teach knowledge that is already several years old by the time it reaches curricula.
According to Russev, artificial intelligence is already reshaping the labour market and affecting positions traditionally held by young people at the start of their careers.
Referring to ideas outlined in his book Trust Capital, he said one possible scenario is that humanity could split into three cognitively distinct groups within the next decade.
The first group, which he called "Homo Delegatus", would increasingly delegate decisions to artificial intelligence. The second, "Homo Integratos", would actively use technology to expand human capabilities. The third group, described as "the guardians", would believe that people possess everything needed to live fulfilled lives without relying on advanced technologies.
Russev said the key challenge for society would be to build connections and maintain dialogue among these groups.
The event again brings together Bulgarians from the country and abroad, leading companies, visionaries and opinion leaders to present real opportunities for building a career and a life in Bulgaria, the platform told BTA earlier.
BTA is hosting its own booth at the career forum for the second year running. This year, BTA will spotlight BTA School, its internship and career development unit.
The media partners of Bulgaria Across Five Oceans are Nova Broadcasting Group, Darik Radio and BTA.
