The Ministry of Foreign Affairs press service said Monday that Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev urged the Russian Federation to end provocations against neighbours and aggression towards Ukraine.

Georgiev made the remarks as part of a joint EU-NATO foreign ministers’ statement in New York, issued after a serious Russian breach of Estonian airspace.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is deeply concerned about the incident on September 19, 2025, when three armed Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated Estonian airspace. Estonia is a member of both the EU and NATO. This is the fourth such incursion since the start of the year and constitutes a significant threat to regional and international security.

During the joint media briefing, Georgiev and representatives of partner countries condemned the provocation and backed Estonia’s call for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

On September 19, the Estonian government announced that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace without authorization and stayed for 12 minutes, according to Reuters. This incident followed the violation of Polish airspace by more than 20 Russian drones during the night of September 9 to 10.
