Consultations on the EU's strategic approach to the Black Sea region were held here on Thursday between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Commission (EC), the Ministry reported. The talks on the Bulgarian side were led by Gergana Karadjova, Director - General for Political Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, with participation from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Transport and Communications, and Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works.

The meeting was held in the context of the EU Strategic Approach to the Black Sea, presented on May 28, 2025, which was prepared under a joint initiative of Bulgaria and Romania.

Bulgaria is the first country to be consulted by the European institutions on the subject, following the decision of the EU Heads of State and Government in June 2025 to move rapidly on the implementation of the Strategy.

At the initiative of the EEAS and the EC, the consultations aimed at exchanging views on the first pillar of the Strategy, concerning the enhancement of security, stability and resilience of the Black Sea region, and the possibilities to implement the initiatives proposed under this pillar.

The representatives of the European institutions expressed their gratitude to the Bulgarian side for the constructive approach and the views presented on the matter.
