Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh insisted on a separate budget for the development of the sector in the EU during the informal meeting of tourism ministers, which took place on June 23-24 in Warsaw, Poland, the ministry said. He explained that Bulgaria supports the elaboration of a new, practical and forward-looking EU strategy for sustainable tourism. The minister stressed that it should take into account the interdependence of tourism with other sectors such as transport, agriculture, construction, health and trade.

“We are grateful to the Polish Presidency for putting the future of sustainable tourism in Europe at the centre of our common dialogue,” said the Minister, stressing that this strategy should be accompanied by targeted financial support to ensure its real implementation, the promotion of green investments and the development of lesser-known destinations. A particular focus should be placed on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, which often face resource constraints in implementing innovation and environmental solutions, he added.

Borshosh outlined Bulgaria's vision on the key priorities, which are fundamental in the preparation of this strategy. These include the green transition, the digital transformation of tourism, social sustainability and territorial cohesion.

During the second panel session of the meeting, special attention was paid to the need to address the imbalance in tourism development. Like many member states, Bulgaria faces two parallel realities: concentrated tourism flows in popular destinations and underdeveloped potential in others. Addressing this imbalance is essential for environmental, social and cultural sustainability, the Minister further stressed.

Bulgaria will continue to invest in integrated marketing communications and digital storytelling to showcase its hidden treasures and diversify its tourism offers, Borshosh said.
