“Bulgaria and Hungary share excellent bilateral relations, rooted in deep historical and cultural ties. We maintain an active political dialogue, with a focus on energy and bilateral military cooperation,” said Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev during his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Mr. Péter Szijjártó, according to a press release from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published here on Monday. Minister Georgiev is on a working visit to Budapest at the invitation of his Hungarian counterpart.

Ministers Georgiev and Szijjártó discussed opportunities to further deepen bilateral cooperation in a number of priority areas, including energy, military cooperation, investment, tourism, education, science, and culture. “The completion of the Vertical Gas Corridor, which passes through the territories of Bulgaria and Hungary, will improve the EU’s energy security and resilience,” emphasized Bulgaria's top diplomat.

The two sides welcomed the signing of several bilateral documents contributing to the renewal and development of the legal framework between the two countries. “Our enhanced partnership and the bilateral agreements achieved will contribute to even stronger economic cooperation, especially in strategic areas such as investment, transport, and innovation,” added Minister Georgiev. “Increasing Hungarian investment in Bulgaria is a priority for us. Energy, industrial production, and transport are sectors with significant potential for deepening our cooperation,” the Bulgarian Foreign Minister further noted.

The two ministers also exchanged views on key topics from the European and global agenda, including EU enlargement, migration management, cooperation within NATO, the war in Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East.
